What data we collect

Wisdom operates primarily locally. By default, all extracted wisdom, flashcards, and library data is stored in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) and never leaves your device.

If you choose to sign in with Google, we store your email address and a user ID in our database to enable cross-device sync.

What we do NOT collect

• We do not sell your data to any third party.
• We do not store the content of YouTube videos you watch.
• We do not track your browsing history beyond YouTube videos you explicitly extract.
• We do not store your Gemini API key (it stays in your browser's sync storage).

YouTube transcript data

When you extract wisdom from a video, the transcript is sent to Google's Gemini API (or our backend AI if you're signed in) for processing. We do not store transcripts on our servers.

Permissions used

• storage — to save your library, flashcards, and preferences locally.
• tabs / activeTab — to detect which YouTube video you're watching.
• scripting — to inject our sidebar into YouTube pages.
• sidePanel — to display the Wisdom sidebar alongside YouTube.
• identity — to enable optional Google sign-in for sync features.
